The Live Your Dream Education & Training Awards are Soroptimist's major service project. This monetary award was established by Soroptimist International of the Americas in 1972 to assist women entering or re-entering the workforce in obtaining the education and skills training they need to improve their employment status.
The Live Your Dream Education & Training Awards are designed to give women heads of household, who provide the primary source of financial support for their families, the opportunity to achieve their career goals. This is an opportunity they have not previously had, whether because of economic or social barriers or personal circumstances. These awards are designed for women attending or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
Every year Soroptimist distributes more than $2 million in education grants to about 1,500 women all over the world. Over half of our Live Your Dream Education & Training Award recipients are survivors of domenstic violence, trafficking or sexual assault. Nearly all of the women and families we serve have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, teen pregnancy and drug or alcohol addiction.
Live Your Dream Education & Training Award recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.
AMOUNT OF AWARD:
$1,000 to $6,000
ELIGIBILITY:
Provide the primary financial support for their dependents (dependents can include children, spouse, siblings and/or parents).
Have financial need.
Are enrolled in or have been accepted to a high school equivalency program, vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
Are motivated to achieve their educational and career goals.
Reside in one of Soroptimist International of the Americas' member countries/territories.
Have not previously been the recipient of a Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Award or Live Your Dream Education & Training Award.
Do not have a graduate degree.
Are not a Soroptimist member or employee of Soroptimist International of the Americas or immediate family of either.
